]]>Emporium Mall, is home to a state of the art cinema complex, a host of food courts and contemporary styled hotel. The ground breaking multi-million pound scheme attracts a wealth of leading national and international retail brands names as well as a small percentage of commercial activity.
The vernacular architecture offers a calm, dark interior with pockets of courtyards creating and idealised shopping experience in the Emporium Mall. The brief guided us to create landmark crystalline forms to stand out from the neighbouring buildings, but still to offer generous, light filled communal space visible through tall openings. Each ‘Crystal’ houses a special retail offer, and the space between generate event spaces.

]]>Basement parking levels have also been divided into split levels which make for an efficient parking layout and also helps reduce the excavation of the ground, which in turn reduces the cost of construction.
Red terracotta/ sandstone cladding is proposed to reference the local hues of traditional Mughal architecture. The south facing front façade has been designed in response to the solar movement, having horizontal windows carved into the solid face. This gives the overall built form a unified feel and also helps minimize solar gain in the building.

]]>The plot is located in the central business district of Karachi and lies at a corner location with road access from 2 sides and neighboring properties on the remaining 2 sides.
Our primary goal was to keep the office floor plan as flexible and unobstructed as possible while maintaining a bold urban presence.
The core is located on the north side, facing the rear residential property. This allowed us to open maximum views out to Shahra e Faisal with the help of glazing on the front and the sides.
The facade was developed in response to the solar movement and the client’s requirement of having a fully glazed facade. This synergy resulted in a shading system which helps mitigate heat gain in summers without compromising the views of the occupants. These shading devices are supported by an exoskeleton frame which sits at 2.5 feet from the face of glazing.
